News: Hunger Games Cast

The ardent YA fans out there would be very familiar with the popular series The Hunger Games. Starring young  lethal Katniss, and set in a dystopian world, this series has swept the blogging world by storm since the first book was released mid-2010. Suzanne Collins managed to create a maelstrom of emotion among her readers via one of the best YA books I've read.
The three book series (The Hunger Games,Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games)Mockingjay (The Final Book of The Hunger Games)) with its strong female lead, was quickly snapped up as a potential movie release, for 2012.
This weekend, Jennifer Lawrence has confirmed that she will indeed be playing Katniss Everdeen in the movie.
What's your take on this?
I know that there are tons of people out there who are right now creating their fantasy cast for The Hunger Games. Gale and Peeta, the two male leads, are probably the next biggest casting challenge.
Who would you cast as Gale and Peeta?

And if you haven't read these books, what are you waiting for?!

  1. Maybe it's just me, but that face is not even close to what I picture when I think of Katniss...

  2. I'm actually really pleased with the casting. I think JL is a wonderful, actress, and she's going to pull off the role perfectly. I don't mind the fact that she doesn't have dark hair or tanned skin. I mean, Nina Dobrev is dark whereas Elena Gilbert (Vampire Diaries) is supposed to be fair, and I think Nina is perfect :)

  3. I'm not a big fan of The Hunger Games (I don't hate them or anything, they just aren't my favorite books) but I didn't really picture Katniss looking like that.

  4. That young actress looks so sweet...too sweet for Katniss. She would need to lose some weight and adopt a more predatory look.

  5. love your blog and your review! following you from book blog.

  6. @bibliotropic, anachronist -
I've noticed that my ideal image of the character could be completely different but the actor can sometimes pull it off.

@Amber - That is an excellent example!

@Golden Eagle - *sigh* who did?
    Thin, dark, predatory? NOT.

    @Thanks Caroline, following you back!

  7. I can't really think of anyone better than Jennifer Lawrence for the part of Katniss off the top of my head, but there's something about her that seems a little un-Katniss-like. Not sure what it is, but I'm sure if she's a good actress that feeling will go away when I see the movie.

I just have a hard time deciding whether or not I like someone for the part of a book character because when I read I never actually have a mental image of the character in my head. I never see their face in my mind's eye. Just a quirk of mine, but in a way it makes watching the movie version of books more interesting.

I've heard rumors going around about who's going to play Peeta including Alex Pettyfer (Beastly). I almost think Ed Speleers might be a good choice, but I don't think he's even being considered.
